Affiliate Marketing And Keyword Research

The idea of making money online is getting much more attractive, now that many households finances are getting very tight due to the recession.

One of the first things many people hear about is “affiliate marketing”. There is a plenty of information available to totally overwhelm most people at first, however the basic concept is still very simple.

The first step is Market research.

First of all, you must do research in the markets you are interested in entering. This is your starting point. Find out what your customers in this market want. Find the actual words or phrases people type into search engine searches to try to find answers to their problems. Then you can provide a solution to their most pressing problems. Be sure to do your research, or you will regret it later. This step is known as “keyword research”.

By finding and using the best keywords that customers are actively entering into the search engines, you will be able to rank higher in the search engines with your websites and landing pages. Plus you will generate a nonstop flood of organic, targeted traffic.

Keyword research is not a difficult task. Just start with the free Google Keyword Tool, which can be found by searching in Google for “Google keyword tool external”. Then enter in a keyword or phrase that identifies the product or niche that you are interested in promoting as an affiliate marketer.

Click on “get keyword ideas” to generate a list of keywords. Then take a look at the number of times people are searching for your main keywords per month. You can also gauge the competitiveness of the the market from the results you get from the Google Keyword Tool.

What you want to do is find a market with sufficient existing demand, that also has existing competition and products readily available, but not so competitive that ranking highly in the search engines is next to impossible.

What’s important to remember here is that there must be an active buying audience for whatever you choose to market. Since you are an affiliate, your costs for entering a market are very low. However it is still a good idea to take the time to do the niche market research in order to avoid wasting your valuable time.
